Luvvy,

For diploma , you need to get 110 credits. Each subject at Diploma Level is for 20-25 credits, which means that you might have to appear for 4-6 subjects. More specific info is available at CII website :

http://www.cii.co.uk/generalinsurance/qualifications/Qualification.aspx?award=Diploma&endstem=1&sect=272

Time taken - depends on your prepration and attempts.
If you give all exams in one shot and clear it, its a matter of months only.

If you have further queries, Please do write.

One more query - suppose I would get an opening in one of the insurance companies as a fresher in Underwriting and operations. Would it be a suitable option to pursue CII?

Studying for CII is a mode of self-development / continuous professional development.
So, it doesnt matter where you work and what you do.
