Can a NRI open a PPF account?

I am presently living in UK and I am NRI. I have a query - Can a NRI open a PPF account with State bank of India or other National Banks or in post office? If yes, please tell me the complete procedure.

I am afraid, you can't open PPF account.

NRI cannot open new PPF account, but if they have any PPF account before attaining NRI status, they can operate that PPF account with NRE or NRO account.
