Job Description
- Ensure that the underwriting policy of the company is executed and updated with appropriate board approvals from time to time
- Establish underwriting guidelines working together with actuaries, reinsurers , sales, distributors etc to write profitable risks for the company
- Ensure that all reinsurance treaties and addendums pertaining to underwriting are in place and enforceable at all times
- Ensure that the underwriting authority within the underwriting team is distributed according to merit, experience and quality of the underwriting decision of the underwriters.
- Establish a robust mechanism for checking and maintaining the quality of the underwriting decisions
- Appraise top management of the portfolio risks and recommend steps to controls the risks detected through continuous analysis of the portfolio done with or without the help of the reinsurers
- Ensure that the company is able to negotiate reinsurance costs in the market by highlighting the quality of the risks and the underwriting standards of the company
- Constantly communicate with Sales and Distributors encouraging them to use the standards of underwriting in their communication with customers
- Provide constant inputs and feedback on the medical network, quality and effectiveness of the medical reports, medical opinions etc
- Constantly review and customize the medical charts with changes in the market and improvement in the risks underwrittien, with the approval of reinsurers wherever necessary.
- Ensure that the industry recognizes the underwriting team as the trendsetter in underwriting in the Indian Insurance Industry
- Ensure that underwriters are constantly groomed and trained within the company so that the risk of attrition is controlled and monitored
Desired Skills & Experience
Years of Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in Life & Health Insurance Underwriting (should have underwritten with the highest underwriting authority )
Qualification: B.Sc. / B. Pharm. / BAMS / BHMS / BDS / MBBS
