Do we need travel insurance to apply for Visa?

It's not Travel Insurance Question, but just thought, your experience may help me out. My query is - Would I need to show travel insurance certificate before applying for visa?

It normally depends upon the visa you are applying -
- If applying for tourist visa, you need to submit travel insurance with application
- If work visa than it is not required.
Better check with the visa authority, what all documents required for your visa.

It varies from country to country and Visa categories (as mentioned by Master). So pls check with Embassy or your travel agent.
