Advantages of being independent distributor

Are there any unique advantages of being an independent mutual fund distributor comparedto being a sub broker under other mutual fund distributors like Karvy?Is there a difference in commissions paid?

Independent distributor get more commission then working under sub broker.

When I spoke to Karvy they said that their commission rates would be higher
than being independent agent since they get volume discounts.
Is this true?
