How long I need to stay with an insurer to have a NCB?

I am looking to buy a new car and just to save some money on the car insurance premium, I would like to go for a old car first and once I am eligible for no claim bonus, I will sell this old car and buy a new car. I have a query - how long do I need to stay with an insurer to have a NCB?

To have a NCB the minimum you need to stay with an insurer is 1 year
