Plasma is basically PDP(Public Display Panel) and it gives better picture quality when viewed from distance, say more than 15-20 feet.Which I don't think will be your viewing distance in a bed room or even a hall... so go for LCD.

Sony is always good but expensive.
samsung n LG are fine too.
