The Indian Motor Tariff allows discount for installation of anti-theft devices in the insured vehicle. The relevant provision of the Motor Tariff says, “Vehicles (other than those covered under Motor Trade policies) fitted with anti-theft devices approved by Automobile Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune and whose installation is duly certified by any of the Automobile Associations (Western India Automobile Association, The Automobile Association of Eastern India, The Automobile Association of Sothern India) are eligible for a discount of 2.5% on the own-damage (OD) component of premium subject to a maximum of Rs. 500.
For mid-term installation of anti-theft device approved and certified as above in the vehicle insured, pro rata proportion of the premium discount calculated as per tariff provision for the un-expired period of the policy is allowed.”
Which Anti-Theft Devices were Approved by ARAI?
There is no info or Anti-Theft Devices list approved by ARAI or Automobile Association on their website. But as per carwale – “All good anti-theft brands in India are ARAI-approved e.g. AutoCop, Nippon, Xenos, Minda and many others.”
But some insurer provide above discounts without any documentary proof and some ask for proof. So to avoid this, before installing a device, check with the dealer, if the device they are installing is approved by ARAI. Second, if you have previously got discount in premium for anti-theft device then you can claim it again at renewal (just show your existing policy document).
